Simple is better

I have inherited simplicity from my peasant upbringing.
We ate what we grew.
We could taste every ingredient.
Fruit was dessert.
And bread was our sustenance.

So, when I crave the taste of home, I make this pizza.
Bread dough, sliced mushrooms, tomatoes and cheese baked for fifteen minutes in the hottest oven you can procure.

Come summer, heat up the BBQ and make pizza.

  1. I love the idea -- both of a simple veggie pizza and cooking it on the barbeque! Perfect! I'll try it!

  3. Simple is better. This looks so good. I have never cooked pizza on a grill. I guess I will have to try this.

  4. p.s. The next time you go shopping, buy frozen bread dough. Take it out the night before, and place it in the refrigerator. Two hours before your bbq take out of refrigerator, spread the dough on an oiled cookie sheet and let it rise.
Bake in two stages. The first stage, ten minutes, just the dough and a bit of olive oil and whatever sauce you like. The last five minutes, add the toppings and slide back on the grill with a closed lid. The cheeses and the veggies will only need five minutes.

I make a few extra pizzas through the first stage, cool and freeze.
pull these out of the freezer when I have a need for a quick snack or appetizer, and with just a couple of toppings, I have freshly tasting pizza.

    I pre-cook my pizza shells
