Dropping inches is hard to do at any age...

We keep our trees short and trimmed of dead wood. Do we do the same with our figures?  Some of us are lucky and don't have to watch our weight much.  Some of us do nothing but.

Hubby and I have embarked on a slim-down path.  We both carry extra pounds that are interfering with our normal routines, and threaten our future lifestyle.  So, here is our resolve:

We will lose enough pounds/inches to fit comfortably loose in our present clothes. (We don't expect to buy new wardrobes, or change our lifestyle which is already lovely, by the way.)

We will do three things consistently. Daily, rain or shine, meetings or no meetings:
a. Walk every day, and add strength movements.
b. Cut serving size of meat and starches.
c. Expand  vegetables at every meal.

So far, just a few days in our new resolve, our bodies are cooperating beautifully.
The big challenge is adding vegetables to breakfast!

Adding greens is an easy way to control carbs, and provide our bodies with extra roughage and extra vitamins.  Here is the plan for breakfast:

Monday, W, F= spinach / chard / mushrooms omelets
Tuesday, S, S= ratatouille, peppers and tomatoes, zucchini and other squashes served as side dishes to ham, sausage, salmon rilette, cottage cheese.

  1. You are a woman after my own heart! It is hard to accept that as we "mature" our body just does not process the calories the same way and we cannot continue to eat the same amount of food that we used to without adding pounds. Portions, portions, portions. We try to eat less "white" (bread, pasta, rice, potatoes) though it breaks my little Italian heart and eat much more vegetables. Walking, yes...but it is VERY hard to accomplish recommended 10,000 steps a day. :-(

  2. Oh Patricia, you know the problem is not just one thing. Our hormones have abandoned us too; and they did do a good job of keeping us digesting well. We've been so focused on eating well that we forgot to eat less!

  3. Good for you and that's definitely the right way to do it. Those who go on strict diets never keep the weight off. Moderation and Moving are the keys :-)

  5. What a wonderful plan, Rosaria! I sure know the trials of extra pounds and what an unhealthy load that puts on our aging bodies. Bob and I work out every day and have been watching our eating habits, especially carbs and sugar. He's doing wonderfully. I have a very long way to go, but am determined -- and plan to implement your plan for more veggies at breakfast. Thank you!!

  6. A sweet reminder to myself:
When you need sweets, grab your tangerine!
I keep grapes and tangerines around to quell my sweet tooth, especially after a long day of meetings and stressful moments.

It turns out that stress is a major diet buster. Who knew!

    Thanks for the encouragement.
This morning, veggie omelet with salsa, and half a piece of toast, Hubby's idea to add even more taste and cut down the carbs. Smart Ah?
