4 slices of country bread
4 eggs
11/2 cup milk, or more  (all bread needs to be submerged)
1/2 C raisins
1/4 C sugar plus 2T
1/2 t nutmeg
1 t vanilla or almond extract
1/2 stick of butter

The night before, cube the bread. Mix all other ingredients except the butter. Soak the bread  overnight.  In the morning, butter two ramekins, pour the batter, pat some butter and sprinkle some sugar before baking.

Note: I wish I had prepared some extra to eat at another time.
You can substitute cut-up apples or pears, or other dried fruit for raisins.
