When you don't feel like cooking...

Yes, there are days when cooking is not possible.
When cooking is the last thing you want to think about.
When there is no time.
When there is no energy.
When clouds are dark and your soul is hurting.

On those days, you need to take a seat, any seat  that gives you privacy and solitude, where you can kick your shoes off and do what you need to do to stay sane.

On those days, you still need nourishment, and healthy doses of it.
On such days, you need to be able to open the freezer or refrigerator and assemble a full meal with minimal efforts.

What's your go to emergency meal?
I stock tins of  tuna, smoked salmon, cheeses and great bread.
La Brea Bread is shipped out to grocery stores frozen. They bake it fresh and voila', you take it home to enjoy any day of the week.

What do you stock?

  1. I buy La Brea Bread at Costco, in Eugene, five, six times a year. I freeze it and pull out a loaf when I want great bread.
Ray, a local grocery chain, also carries it, but at double the price of Costco.

La Brea Bakery is a Los Angeles product, created by Nancy Silverman, a notable chef and restaurateur. I used to drive all the way to her Bakery to purchase her products. Now, they are available at Costco.

  2. I make my own bread, but slice it and freeze when I am alone. I cook a mixed vegetable dish that lasts me for at least 5 days so I cook as little as possible!! I never bother with meat when it is only me!! Diane

  5. Scrambled eggs and toast...that's my emergency meal. I'm going to look for the LaBrea bread next time I'm at Costco. I hope they stock it.

  9. Hubbyhas a box of macaroni and cheese, in case I am out of the house and he has to concoct his own meal. He adds tuna to it and feels like a kid again.

I forgot that I keep pickled eggplant and a jar peppers in the pantry. I can make easy cheese/eggplant panini

  10. Mmmm, I love making a nice Caprese salad with fresh tomatoes and basil from the garden, sliced mozzarella cheese and a some crusty bread. I also throw together lots of last minute pizzas or sometimes just a cheese and fresh fruit tray does the trick :-)

  12. When I don't feel like cooking, I order a carry- out, in the neighborhood or make up a quick French bread pizza or salad. Plus my freezer is always full of cooked meals, grilled shrimp, and chicken. :)
